HOSPITAL FACILITIES 

Our staff is often commended on their professional yet friendly approach. We will do everything we can to make your visit as comfortable as possible. We ensure a high ratio of nursing staff per patient with an average of three to four patients to one nurse/midwife. This ratio is increased to one to one care in critical areas such as the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Labour Ward. Patient safety is our main concern. The Mayflower Hospital has specialists and facilities on hand should an emergency arise.In these circumstances you or your child will be cared for by senior doctors such as Consultant Obstetricians, Gynaecologists or Paediatricians, Consultant Anaesthetists. These facilities include a dedicated emergency obstetric theatre, NICU / Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU).

There is an exclusive car-parking area for the Mayflower patients for about 8 cars in the front. If this is full, at peak-hours, please park your car in the hospital car-park at the back of the hospital. This can accommodate 10 more cars.

Being Admitted And Your Hospital Stay
Patient Drop-back facility in AC Cars (optional)

You will be asked to get admitted in the hospital either on the day of the surgery or one-day prior. You must strictly follow the instructions about your diet and bring all you medical reports along. At admission you and your relative will be asked to sign some documents.

In your room you will be asked to change into the hospital dress. The nurse will prepare you for surgery and if required you may also be asked to take some tablets with a sip of water. The doctor will ask you to read & sign the consent form. You may take the help of the doctor / nurse to do this. Do remember to write all medical disorder and allergies. Please remove all your jewellery, nail-polish  before you go into the operative theatre.

Once you are ready for surgery you will be taken to the pre- Anaesthetic room and after you have spoken to the Anaesthetist you will be given medications. In case you have any removable dentures and or lenses please remove them and hand them over to your relatives. Please do not hesitate in asking any questions, the team at the Mayflower looks forward to answering your queries.

After the surgery you will be in the Recovery room with an oxygen mask and monitoring for some time and will be shifted to your room in due course.

The Anaesthesia department in Mayflower believes in keeping the patients maximum pain free & you may be given PCA (patient controlled analgesia) for the same. 
In your room you may still have the I.V.Fluids (Drip) continuing. This will be monitored by the nursing staff.

You may even have a Urinary catheter which may be kept till the next morning.

The Hospital has a full fledged kitchen which supplies soup, tea, coffee, snacks & meals.
There is a coffee vending machine on the 3rd floor and is available  24 hours.

What to bring (for all patients)

The Mayflower Hospital provides many items for your personal comfort such as towels and soap. We suggest you bring items of a personal nature including:

  • Nightclothes
  • Dressing gown
  • Slippers
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Personal toiletries
  • Any medication you are taking on a regular basis
  • Copies of medical information (x-rays, scans, records, etc)
  • Admission paperwork not previously submitted
  • For maternity patients
    If you are a maternity patient, you may also like to bring these additional items:

    For labour:

  • Camera and/or video
  • Hospital gowns are available for your use in labour
  • Sanitary pads and disposable pants are also provided by the hospital.
  • For your newborn baby:
    The hospital provides the following for your baby during your stay:

  • Disposable nappies
  • Baby clothes
  • Baby blankets
  • Towels
  • Cotton wool
  • All you will need to bring for your baby is an outfit to go home in.

    Day case patients

    Day case patients may be cared for in shared accommodation. Your Consultant will advise you when you are ready to go home. Please note that if a patient has undergone day care it is required that they are discharged in the care of a ‘responsible’ adult and that they will not be unaccompanied overnight.

    Valuables
    We advise you to ask relatives or friends to look after your valuables and money and not keep them with you. The hospital will not accept any liability for any personal valuables or money kept in the safes as we are not able to monitor their usage and access by patients or their families and their visitors.

    Medicines from home
    You may be asked to bring tablets or medicines which you are currently taking at home. If this is the case, please show them to the nursing staff and any doctor who visits you following your admission.

    On arrival
    On arrival at the Mayflower Hospital please report to the main reception desk. A member of our reception staff will meet you, escort you to your room and explain our facilities for your comfort and care. Our admitting personnel will visit you in your room to check that your personal and insurance details are in order and to collect a deposit as appropriate.

    Hotels
    The Mayflower Hospital has negotiated preferential rates with nearby hotels and apartment accommodation for family and friends of patients.
    Meal times:

  • breakfast served from 7:00am - 9:00am
  • Lunch served from 12:00 noon -1:30pm
  • Evening snacks from  4.00 pm – 6.00 pm
  • Dinner served from 7:00pm - 9:00pm
  • Housekeeping
    Cleanliness and hygiene are extremely high on our day to day agenda. All of our Housekeeping Assistants  will ensure that your room will be cleaned to a high standard.

    Infection control
    There are hand cleansing gel dispensers in all hospital rooms. It is advisable for visitors to wash their hands and use hand cleansing gel when they enter your room.

    Security
    The Mayflower Hospital pays vigorous attention to the safety and security of our patients and staff. Staff and doctors of the hospital are issued with personal identification tags to allow them access to the hospital.
    All visitors must report to the Front Reception desk at every visit. Video cameras are placed in strategic areas to monitor and record movements within the hospital. Additionally, there is a baby identification tag system on our maternity wards to provide greater security in the care of the newborn babies.

    Identification band
    On arrival you will be asked to wear an identification band that must not be removed while you are in the hospital. It enables staff who may not know you personally to look after you. If it comes off please tell a member of staff who will replace it.

    Visitors
    Visiting is unrestricted for parents of child patients and partners but we do ask for the co-operation of visitors. Other visitors are requested to visit patients during 8 am-12 pm & 4pm-10 pm.
    Please ensure that during rest periods and where medically indicated, consideration is shown. We request that all visitors leave the hospital by 10pm. Parents of child patients and partners are able to stay overnight if desired. We suggest only relative to stay overnight with the patient.

    For security reasons, please ask your visitors to report at the main reception and to the nurse station on your floor before entering your room.

    Newspapers
    One newspaper is complimentary on request. Other newspapers can be requested but will be charged to your account.

    Smoking
    The hospital operates a non-smoking policy in the best interest of babies and other patients.

    Gratuities
    It is our aim to provide you with the highest standards of care in all aspects. Employees are rewarded by knowing that they have helped in your recovery. They do not expect to receive tips or gratuities for carrying out their jobs to your satisfaction. Our policy expressly states that staff may not accept extra payment for services performed and we courteously ask you to assist us in implementing this policy. However, if you would wish to contribute any amount towards the staff welfare, please deposit that amount in the staff welfare box kept on each floor.

    Fire instructions
    For your safety the hospital is protected by an automatic fire alarm system. On the floor where the fire is detected and the alarm is raised, there will be a continuous loud ringing bell. The other floors will have a loud intermittent bell.

    Satisfaction survey
    We are proud of our patient care and work hard to make each patient's time with us as pleasant as possible. Our patient survey is an important indicator of how well we achieve this and we monitor the results very closely.
    During the period January 1st to December 31st 2009, the Mayflower hospital received 1200 completed patient feedback questionnaires. We are pleased to report that 97% of patients responding rated their Overall Quality of Care as good or better.
    A copy of our patient feedback form is available in all rooms. To help us to improve our services, we ask that you please compete this form and hand it to a member of the ward staff.

    Going home
    Your Consultant, together with your nursing team, will advise when you are ready to go home. Following treatment under general anaesthetic we recommend that you are collected from the hospital as you should not drive for 24 hours.
    We request that you vacate your room by 10am to help us to accommodate the regular demand for our rooms. Your cooperation is requested and appreciated.

    Financial Arrangements

    The secretary  will explain to you the exact package cost of the treatment. The cost would depend on the classification of surgery and the type of room selected. Important Information for Patients with Private Medical Insurance.


    Patients' Charter

    You have the right:

  • To expect that your confidentiality is respected by all the Mayflower Hospital staff.
  • To personal dignity and privacy.
  • To be treated with equality regarding your cultural and religious traditions, this also applies to your family.
  • To have a chaperone present during an intimate examination.
  • To seek a second opinion on diagnosis and treatment options, in agreement with your Consultant.
  • To be given a clear explanation of your condition and any treatment, investigations or procedures proposed, including risks and    alternatives, before agreeing on a course of action to be taken and signing your consent form, if applicable.
  • To have your decisions about your treatment and care respected.
  • To be informed in advance, where possible, of any change of the date and time of treatment/ operation.
  • To have access to your medical records and be sure that the information recorded in your health record will remain confidential    to those caring for you.
  • To give your consent to take part in research. If you decide not to take part, this will in no way affect your treatment or care.
  • To an investigation of any complaints, both clinical and non-clinical under our Complaints policy.
  • Our staff have the right to expect that you, your family and your visitors will treat them with the respect, courtesy and consideration that you would expect yourself.
