At Mayflower Women's Hospital, our Obstetrics and Maternity Department provides expert, personalised pregnancy care for all stages and all risk levels - from routine antenatal monitoring and normal delivery to complex high-risk pregnancy management and emergency obstetric care. Our Obstetric Services

Antenatal Care & Pregnancy Monitoring

Regular antenatal care is the foundation of a safe pregnancy. At Mayflower, your antenatal programme is personalised - not a standard series of appointments applied uniformly. Your obstetrician monitors foetal growth, blood pressure, blood sugar, and all key maternal health markers at each visit, adjusting your care plan as needed. We provide nutritional guidance, emotional support, and clear preparation for labour and delivery throughout your pregnancy.

C-Section (Caesarean Delivery)

When vaginal delivery is not safe - whether planned in advance or required urgently during labour - our obstetric surgical team is equipped and experienced to perform Caesarean sections with precision and care. Our theatre and anaesthesia teams work together to ensure the safest possible outcome for mother and baby. For women who have had a previous C-section and wish to attempt vaginal birth, we offer VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Caesarean) where clinically appropriate.

D - H

Diabetes in Pregnancy (Gestational Diabetes)

Gestational diabetes, if unmanaged, increases the risk of complications for both mother and baby. Our team monitors blood glucose levels throughout pregnancy, providing dietary guidance, medication where needed, and careful foetal monitoring to ensure a safe pregnancy and delivery outcome. Blood sugar management continues into the postnatal period, with follow-up to assess long-term metabolic health.

Foetal Medicine & Advanced Prenatal Diagnostics

Our foetal medicine specialist Dr. Mayank Chowdhury provides advanced prenatal diagnostics at both Memnagar and Bopal - including detailed anomaly scans, 4D ultrasound, foetal growth assessments, Doppler studies, and amniocentesis where indicated. For pregnancies identified as high-risk, Dr. Mayank provides continuous specialist monitoring alongside your obstetrician.

High-Risk Pregnancy Management

Some pregnancies require a higher level of specialist attention - and at Mayflower, we are equipped to provide it. High-risk pregnancy management at Mayflower covers: pre-existing medical conditions (diabetes, thyroid disorders, hypertension, heart disease), multiple pregnancies (twins, triplets), previous pregnancy complications or losses, advanced maternal age, foetal abnormalities identified on scan, and placenta-related complications. Our obstetricians and foetal medicine specialist work in close collaboration to monitor and manage every dimension of your high-risk pregnancy - with access to our NICU team for immediate neonatal support if needed after delivery.

Hypertension in Pregnancy (Pre-eclampsia)

Hypertensive conditions in pregnancy - including gestational hypertension and pre-eclampsia - require careful monitoring and timely intervention. Our team is experienced in managing blood pressure throughout pregnancy, recognising warning signs early, and making timely decisions about delivery to protect both mother and baby.

Labour & Delivery - Normal Vaginal Delivery

At Mayflower, normal delivery is supported in a calm, well-equipped environment with continuous foetal monitoring, dedicated nursing support, and your birth preferences respected wherever medically safe to do so. Our labour rooms are designed for comfort and safety - with modern monitoring equipment and an anaesthesia team immediately available should circumstances change. We support informed birth planning and will guide you through your options clearly before your due date.

Neonatal Support & NICU

Mayflower's Neonatal ICU (NICU) provides specialist care for newborns who need additional support after birth - premature babies, those with breathing difficulties, infection, jaundice, or feeding challenges. Our neonatology team works alongside our obstetrics team to ensure any newborn requiring intensive care receives it immediately, without transfer to another facility.

Painless Delivery (Epidural Analgesia)

For mothers who wish to manage labour pain with medical support, epidural analgesia (painless delivery) is available at Mayflower. Administered by our specialist anaesthesiology team, epidural pain relief allows you to remain awake and comfortable during labour while reducing pain significantly. Your obstetrician and anaesthetist will discuss this option with you during your antenatal consultations.

Postnatal Care & Recovery

Your care at Mayflower does not end at delivery. Our postnatal programme includes wound care and recovery monitoring for C-section mothers, lactation support and breastfeeding guidance, newborn care education for first-time parents, emotional support and screening for postnatal depression, nutritional guidance for recovery, and discharge planning with a clear follow-up schedule. We support mothers through the full transition to parenthood - not just to the moment of discharge.

Pre-conception Counselling

Before you begin trying to conceive - particularly if you have a history of pregnancy complications, a chronic health condition, or a previous pregnancy loss - pre-conception counselling helps you prepare your body and understand your risks. Our obstetricians review your medical history, optimise your health before conception, and design a monitoring plan for when pregnancy begins.

When Should You Contact Our Maternity Team?

Contact us - or come to our emergency department immediately - if you experience any of the following:

During pregnancy:

  • Severe headache, vision changes, or sudden swelling of the face or hands
  • Reduced or absent foetal movements after 28 weeks
  • Vaginal bleeding at any stage of pregnancy
  • Persistent abdominal pain or cramping
  • Fever above 38°C
  • Signs of urinary tract infection - burning, frequency, lower back pain

Approaching your due date:

  • Regular contractions coming every 5 minutes
  • Your waters breaking - even if contractions have not started
  • Any sudden change in your baby's movement pattern

For routine care: Book an antenatal appointment at either our Memnagar or Bopal location. You do not need a referral.
